My Criticism Approach

What I lack in formal education and experience, I make up for in consistency and confidence.

So…I’m not a professional film critic. I have never been to film school, and I have never taken any classes in film or any form of literary criticism.

While I hate to sell myself short, I must admit that right now, I am nothing more than a small fish in the vast sea of online amatuer film criticism. In fact, I don’t even feel too comfortable calling myself a “critic”; rather, I think of myself as “Some Random Guy who Shares His Thoughts on Movies and Stuff.”

I’ll be honest here. When it comes to reviewing film (and other forms of audiovisual media), I tend to weigh plot, writing, and acting much more heavily than I do technical elements such as cinematography or costume design. Additionally, the letter grades I assign are not necessarily a metric of my enjoyment of a film. I enjoy a lot bad movies, and there are some well-done movies (and movie genres) that I don’t really like to watch (i.e. – The Room (2003) is one of my favorite movies, but I would definitely give it an F).

That’s all to say that you must take my opinions with the tiniest grain of salt, but I do hope that from reading my thoughts, at the very least, you’ll gain a new perspective on “movies and stuff.”
